Let’s kick off #fightstereotypes #united4change !
I joined forces with my friend Andreea Caraveteanu and decided to launch a new campaign called “ Fight stereotypes. United 4 change”.
The campaign’s aim is to change the way Romania/Romanians are perceived in Britain. This movement represents a respond to the pressure coming from the media, towards Romanian immigrants since the work restrictions were lifted in January 2014.
Also, the effects of this unfriendly approach is reflected by the results of a survey conducted in Dambovita County, southern Romania. The findings showed that “89,61 per cent of 18-year-old Romanians do not want to come and study in Britain. “ and “53,10 per cent of Romanian high-school students saying they feel less welcome because of policies on migration.” They also stated that they feel discouraged by the offensive attacks against Romanians, being unsecure about their adaptation and university experience.
The video “From London, with Love” which we are releasing today, shows that the voice of the British society disagrees with the voice of the media/tabloids. We asked the public opinion what are their thoughts regarding us, their message and their wishes.
Also, we have a message ourselves for you guys . We want you to make a difference! Join our campaign in our social media challenge. The rules are simple:
- Be creative.
- Take a picture of a place/object/concept that you love about Romania and post it on your profile using #fightstereotypes #united4change #mediaVSpeople
- Challenge at least 3 of your friends to do the same.
We do wish that this campaign would bridge the gap in the way Romania and Romanians are perceived in Britain and vice versa.’ We are Romanian so we can!
